It is a heated bed system, the ultimate system, here follows some of the features which make it so amazing and awesome.
The Mk42 includes 9 built in calibration points which when combined with an inductive sensor and the open source firmware will give you automatic mesh bed leveling. This exceptional addition by the Prusa Research Group is a real game changer to 3D printing. It effectively eliminates manual bed leveling but also automatically negates any variances in bed flatness - Awesome!
The Mk42 heated bed features 3 separate heating zones each generating a different amount of power. This zoned heating provides uniformity across the entire board from the centre to the edge. The effect of this is that you get more reliable printing across the entire bed reducing the chance of warping or miss-printing.
The board is finished wonderfully by adding a polyetherimide (PEI) sheet. This provides the ultimate build surface to the ultimate heated bed - great stuff. PEI is super flat and most print materials adhere to it perfectly but also enable you to remove the print afterwards.
It looks cool - but its not. Black absorbs heat which is great for a heated bed.
Handy markers are included in the silkscreen layer showing the position of the probe home and across board dimensions.
Manufactured with an extra deep 3.2mm high temperature core the Mk42 is rigid and stable over many heat cycles.
No fewer than 6 standoffs are included which are secured with countersunk holes machined right into the PCB - nice. This ensures that the board is fastened securely and provides maximum flatness.
